CLIO Rouge Heel Velvet Review Red to Go and Muse City

It’s been awhile since I touched on makeup. Let’s take a break from skincare and talk about makeup, shall we?

What beauty enthusiasts can go a day without lipcolours? When I look back, the first beauty products I ever tried was lipcolours. From a very young age, I always find it intriguing swatching and playing with them. They honestly makes me feel more beautiful and always gives me a good boost of much needed confidence. As I grow up, I think if you ask me to use only one type of beauty product, I’d definitely pick any lipcolour. Be it gloss, tinted lip balms, lipsticks, etc. I’d give up blushes, eyeshadows, highlighters and the alike for lipcolours.

Now that we’re talking about lipcolours, today I’d like to review something I got for myself awhile ago, the CLIO Rouge Heel Velvet in 01 (Red to Go) and 03 (Muse City). I am suprised myself with these purchase since matte lipsticks were never my go-to. I understand the rave on liquid lipsticks and matte lipsticks but personally they’re not for me considering my lips gets dry very badly despite my best attempts to keep them moisturized.

Anyway, I’ve played with these for couple of months to conclude my opinions on them.

Well, I believe CLIO came out with two versions of this. One is the matte and the other one is a Satin. I could get the Satin ones but I wanted to play with some matte lipsticks so I thought why not give it a go since they’re on a really discounted price on their Shoppee store. On an average, one of these would cost MYR 70.00 (Ain’t no way I’m paying that much for a lipstick) but when I saw them on sales, the price was reduced up to MYR 17.70. I wish there was a lot of available colours but all of them were sold out and only a few shades were available. I wanted to give red lipsticks a try again and I honestly don’t know which would suits me, between 01 and 03, so since they’re discounted, let’s grab both!

You would notice that Clio Rouge Heel Velvet 01 (Red to Go) is the classic red sort of shades that’s neither too warm or too cool. It’s the mature kind of red. It’s right in between and if you ask me between the two, this one is my go-to red (Which rings with its name, lol!). Honestly I feel like this shade is more wearable than Clio Rouge Heel Velvet 03 (Muse City, which is Krystal’s F(X) personal pick btw). If I have to describe this shade, it’s more orangey and vibrant than 01. Definitely makes a statement.

Now, let’s talk about the formulas of these. First of all, I’d like to mention that these aren’t the drying and powdery type of matte lipsticks which I think are a plus. I hate those kinds of matte. Hate it with a passion. But like all mattes, please be sure to put on a moisturizing base on your lips first. They’re not the most drying of mattes but if you don’t prep your lips, it can highlight all the dry skins on your lips so bear that in mind. It’s honestly easy to apply with the super pointed bullet (but I still had boo-boos because I just genuinely suck at applying lipsticks lol). Also, this is like a one swipe colour sort of deal so you’re definitely getting intese pigmentation from these, something you’d expect from mattes, right? Are they long lasting? Eh, if you eat and drink, they’d fade, to be honest. They’re not entirely budge proof and that’s something that took me a while to accept with lipsticks (lol). The scent of these is also really pleasing, kinda reminds me of sweet cookies. They’re not overly scented that it lingers, but you would definitely notice a light sweet scent from the bullet.

I’m going to be that reviewer that will find fault with everything and yeah, I do. Mainly because I feel like it is important to list everything out for you guys. What I don’t like about these are how pricey it is. If it wasn’t for the sale, I don’t think it’s worth the price. You can get same quality lipstick in the drugstore with half of price of these. Also, the packaging feels really cheap in my opinion. Well, I doubt CLIO is a comparable to Lancome or other high end brands but for the price, these feels cheap and lightweight. The clicking mechanism of these were fun but nothing super mind blowing in my opinion.

Overall, after I rounded my opinion on everything, it’s not the worse of matte lipsticks. But I wouldn’t repurchase it for the price and I can get better ones probably from other brands.
